reproduction infinitum (2009)

though who uses anything
for its intended purpose?

a poem may be fluked?

graffiti on t-shirt / speed
of its questions

‘i like this intrusion’

(quips the milquetoast / lost
in customer service country)

‘killing with kindness’: the phrase
becomes a regular

those still bossing bones
the old way

beneath mesh
of q & a, detail / i.d. burial

how to ‘decouple’ mind, shut
off audio / dissolve?

think a shut eye = sleep?

detector vans roam
artificial nighttime

&/or wrappers rustle
in abandoned cinema

  1. That is supercool. This fragment style can really get different tones, the ending makes a sound come alive in the ears too.

  2. Stu,

This then must be the music of our time:

    ...wrapper-rustle
    in abandoned cinema

I can hear you and it from here. Tight.

    Always listening... closely.

Very though-provoking. The van image is great.

I like the typography of the whole thing. It's unconventional, but consistent. Your poems play by their own rules.

  4. Thanks Paul, Tom and Daniel. Glad you enjoyed this one.

And yeah, I'd say this is me playing by my own (fragmentary) rules. :)

  5. Excelent, excelent poem, it seems to me like is a long haiku, it is that kind of thing.
It has many fantastic lines, which have a lot of meaning, and they are suprising because somehow they do not seem to belong there but at a second look you see that they do belong indeed.
    My favourite words where

    though who uses anything
    for its intended purpose?

Reminds me of the story of inventions, because most of them end up being used for anything but what they where made for.

    Take care stu

  6. Thanks Mariana. I like how you say 'they are suprising because somehow they do not seem to belong there but at a second look you see that they do belong indeed.'

In this poem and in others I guess I'm playing around with fragmentation and relation/cohesion. You could say I'm aiming for coherence without too much cohesion, or cohesion without TOO MUCH coherence. Although perhaps that last sentence isn't coherent enough. ;)
